Calgary Roughnecks News Release

The Calgary Roughnecks fell short in their effort to go 3-0 on the season, dropping a spirited 13-10 decision to the defending National Lacrosse League Champion Toronto Rock in front of 11,333 fans Friday night at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

The locals looked to be in good shape holding a 3-2 lead after the first quarter but a short parade to the penalty box gave Toronto a lead that they never relinquished.

Terry Dennett and Tyson Leies each took penalties for illegal body checks during a loose ball giving Toronto a two-man advantage midway through the second. Toronto capitalized on a tally from Steve Toll to get within one.

Toronto then scored the next three goals, including two straight from Edmonton's Blaine Manning to take a 6-4 lead. Manning was selected by Toronto with the draft pick they received from the Roughnecks when the Roughnecks acquired Kaleb Toth. Toth finished as Player-of-the-Game for the second straight game scoring five goals and adding an assist.

"We had some great chances that we should have put in tonight. Against a team like Toronto we need to take what they give us and bury the chances we create, said Toth. Curtis Palidwor continued his outstanding play in net for the Roughnecks turning away 47 of Toronto's 60 shots.

"Curtis has given us a chance to win every game we have played so far, and that's what we need from our goaltenders night in and night out," said Calgary head coach, Chris Hall.

On the heels of Palidwor's strong play, the Roughnecks pulled within one as the teams headed into the final quarter but Toronto scored two quick goals and never looked back moving to .500 on the season while the Roughnecks fell to 2-1.

The Roughnecks now head on the road for a pair of games beginning Friday at Columbus than the club heads to Buffalo to take on the Bandits Saturday.
