Outdoor, professional soccer came to downtown Tulsa for the first time Saturday as the Tulsa Roughnecks played their opening match at ONEOK Field in a preseason friendly against Saint Louis FC. For most of the night, it looked as if a goal from Tulsa's Adam Black would give the Roughnecks a victory. But Saint Louis FC substitute Jermie Lynch netted a pair of late goals to spoil the opener and send Tulsa to a 2-1 defeat.

It was the second meeting in seven days between the two clubs. Last Saturday, Tulsa captured a 2-0 win in St. Louis.

Saturday's first half featured action at both ends but remained scoreless through the first 39 minutes before Black and Lucas Cordeiro combined to open the scoring. Cordeiro fought off challenges from two defenders to maintain possession and send a cross to the far post. Black was unmarked and first-timed his shot into the back of the net to give the Roughnecks the lead.

They carried the 1-0 margin into halftime.

The story of the second half was Lynch. His first goal came in the 75th

minute and it was the first one surrendered by Tulsa goalkeeper Zac Lubin in the preseason. The keeper could not be faulted for the goal though as he made three saves in a manner of seconds before Lynch buried the fourth attempt to even the score at 1-1.

Lynch struck for the game winner one minute into stoppage time.

The two teams combined for 33 shots in the entertaining contest, with 17 coming from the Roughnecks. Lubin was credited with seven saves while Saint Louis FC keeper had six.

A crowd of 3,273 watched the action at ONEOK Field.
