Roughnecks Edge Wranglers, 60-46, in Allen on Monday Evening

MIDLAND, TX. :The West Texas Roughnecks came away with an important divisional road win on Monday evening, February 28, over the Allen Wranglers by the score of 60-46. The Roughnecks set the tone early on as DB Derrick Boyd intercepted starting Wranglers QB Anthony Fisher on the first play from scrimmage. The Roughnecks would get the early edge as RB Evin Jones recorded his first of three rushing touchdowns from one yard out to give the Roughnecks a 6-0 lead. The Wranglers would counter with two Courtney Garrett field goals to tie the game at six.Following a James Lancaster interception offRoughnecks QB Arkelon Hall, the Wranglers would take their first lead at 13-6 whenFisher found Jackie Robinson for a six-yard touchdown pass.

In the second quarter, theRoughnecks evened the game at 13 when Arkelon Hall found wide out Tim Bush for a 16-yard touchdown pass. Following a missed field goal, the Roughnecks retook the led at 20-13 when Evin Jones added his second rushing touchdown from two yards out. Following another Courtney Garrett field goal from theWranglers, Roughnecks running back DeWayne Hoganhelped extend the lead at 27-16 with a one-yard touchdown run, his third of the season.Allen wouldswing themomentum in their favor towards the end of the first half when AnthonyFisher connected with WR Dedrick Poole for a three-yard touchdown pass, making it 27-23 at halftime.

The Wranglers continued their strong momentum swinginto the second-half when they retook the lead at 30-27 when Anthony Fisher found Poole for a 44-yard touchdown pass, all coming after a missed field goal from the Roughnecks to begin he second-half. However, the Roughnecks quickly countered with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Arkelon Hall to Josh Floyd to give the lead back to the Roughnecks at 33-30. Specialteams developed into an important factor for the Roughnecks mid-way through the third quarter as LB Eric Henri blocked a Courtney Garrett field goal attempt to set up a three-yard touchdown run from Evin Jones (third of the game) to make it a 39-30 ball game.

After a Wranglers field goal, Roughnecks wide out Josh Floyd would give the Roughnecks breathing room in the fourth quarter when he returned the ensuing kickoff 51 yards for a touchdown making it 46-33 Roughnecks. The Wranglers would battle back to make a six-point deficit as Anthony Fisher connected with Bobby Chase for a 23-yard touchdown pass to make it 46-40. Roughnecks QB Arkelon Hall and the Roughnecks offense would quickly counter again with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Tim Bush. The Roughnecks would seal the win as defensive back Derrick Boyd intercepted Anthony Fisher and returned it back for a score resulting in a 60-46 win for the Roughnecks.

The Roughnecks (2-0) will enter back-to-back weeks before their next game on Sunday, March 20 at the Oklahoma City Bricktown Brawlers. The Allen Wranglers (0-1) travel to Oklahoma City to face the Bricktown Brawlers next Sunday, March 6.
