Allen Wranglers News Release
ALLEN, TX-It was a hard fought battle on the turf in Allen, but the Wranglers came up short in their home opener against the West Texas Roughnecks.
Wrangler general manager Drew Pearson and former Dallas Cowboy teammate Tony Hill were the first to take the field and participate in the honorary coin toss. Allen Mayor Steve Terrell flipped the coin as the Wranglers honored members of the Allen City Council.
The Roughnecks got on the board quick with a touchdown run by Evin Jones, but the missed PAT opened the door for the Wranglers who responded with two field goals by Allen's own Garrett Courtney. Anthony Fisher connected with wide receiver Jackie Robinson for the first Wrangler touchdown of the game making the score 13-6. The Roughnecks responded with two touchdowns, leading the game by seven. Garrett Courtney connected again to put three on the board for the Wranglers, but Roughneck running back DeWayne Hogan punched another in for the Roughnecks. The Wranglers would score one more team heading into halftime with a score of 23-27.
The Wranglers were on the board first in the 3rd with a Fisher completion to Poole. Two Roughneck touchdowns and two Roughneck missed PATs later left the score at 30-39. A field goal and few touchdowns later had the Wranglers down by seven with 2:30 left in the game. A fumble recovery by Prince Hickman gave the Wranglers a last minute spark, but Fisher's pass was intercepted by Eric Henri and returned for a touchdown; the Roughnecks secured their win with a score of 46-60.
Allen will travel to Oklahoma City next week to face the Bricktown Brawlers as the Roughnecks travel into their bye-week.
