Roughnecks Drop First Road Game

Denver, CO - John Grant Jr. scored the game-winning goal, his third of the night, in the opening minute of overtime lifting the Colorado Mammoth to a 17-16 victory over the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday evening at Pepsi Center. Colorado is now 2-0 to start the young season while Calgary drops to 0-2.

The Roughnecks were led offensively by Shawn Evans who scored five goals, including four in the fourth quarter, and added five assists. Curtis Dickson, Dane Dobbie, Karsen Leung, Jeff Shattler and Daryl Veltman all contributed with two goals each while Geoff Snider rounded out the scoring for Calgary.

Adam Jones led the Mammoth with an eight-point performance, scoring a hat trick and adding five helpers. Eli McLaughlin (2), Creighton Reid (2), Sean Pollock, Cameron Holding, Athan Iannucci, Dan Coates, Drew Westervelt, Alex Turner and Joey Cupido also scored for the home club.

Dillon Ward turned aside 42 of 58 shots to record the win while Mike Poulin made 28 saves in the road setback.

The Roughnecks return to the Rough House on Saturday, Jan. 24 when Calgary hosts the provincial rival Edmonton Rush for Pete the Plumber Superhero Night at 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Fans are encouraged to showcase their superhero attire when they Come for the Party & Stay for the Game. Prizes for the best costumes will be awarded throughout the night.
