San Diego, CA - Powered by a 10-goal second half, the Calgary Roughnecks downed the San Diego Seals by a score of 16-11 on Friday night at Pechanga Arena.
The Riggers' road victory was highlighted by a multitude of team milestones. Alternate captain Curtis Dickson notched his 400th career goal with his second of the night and added four assists. He is just the 14th player in league history to reach that plateau. Jesse King (5g, 4a), who led Calgary's offence with a game leading nine-point effort, recorded a career high five goals. Defender Tyler Burton also surpassed 1,000 career face-off wins. Lastly, rookies Haiden Dickson and Travis Getz made the scoresheet in their first NLL showing. Dickson tallied four goals while Getz recorded his first NLL point with an assist.
Shane Simpson (2g, 1a), Dan Taylor (1g, 4a), Zach Currier (1g, 3a) and Eli Salama (1g) also turned on the red light for Calgary, which improves to 2-1 on the season. The loss drops the Seals to 0-3.
Zack Greer was the top performer for San Diego netting four markers and three assists for seven points.
The Seals outshot Calgary 56-52 and won the special teams battle going 5-8 on the power play while the Roughnecks went 1-7.
The Roughnecks now make a quick trip home to host the Philadelphia Wings tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 28 at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Game time is pushed back to 8:00 p.m. to accommodate for team travel. InVertigo, a local Calgary rock band, is performing live during the halftime show. The Roughnecks will be gathering donations to The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary with collection bins outside the entrances to both the West Lobby and The Club Lobby. Fans are encouraged to bring all non-perishable food items, toiletries, blankets or grocery store gift cards.
