ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks have signed Defensive Back Joey Robinson and Defensive End Rodney Allen.
Joey Robinson (5'11" 200) played at Central Missouri State before joining the Roughnecks in 2005. He was also a key member of the Roughnecks' 16-1 team in 2005 and was a starter on the 2006 championship squad.
Rodney Allen (6'3" 290) comes to Odessa after an outstanding college career at the Kansas University . During his senior season (2006) Rodney posted 14 tackles to go along with 4 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. He also had 2 pass break-ups, 5 quarterback hurries and 1 blocked kick during that senior season. As a junior, Rodney was named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 after making 18 tackles with 7 tackles for loss.
Rodney played two seasons of junior college football at Garden City Community College before signing with Kansas . He is a native of Miami , Florida where he attended Coral Gables High School . Rodney earned all-conference honors while at Coral Gables . He is a cousin of NFL running back Willis McGahee (Baltimore Ravens).
"Joey was here with us for some of our better years and he has a good feel for what we want to do and how we want to do it. He is an outstanding DB with good coverage skills. Rodney gives us a true pass rush presence this season. He is quick and has power which allows him to match up well with offensive linemen. He has good speed (4.80/40) for a big guy. He has great change direction abilities and chases well. I expect Rodney to be a difference maker for us at defensive end in 2008". stated Head Coach Chris Williams.
