Roughnecks Add GK Zac Lubin
March 19, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
The northwest part of the United States is known for its passion for the game of soccer, boasting two of the most successful MLS franchises in Portland and Seattle. The Tulsa Roughnecks and Head Coach David Irving are looking at that passion and to help build their team's roster. On Wednesday, they announced their third signing of a player from the Northwest.
Irving made it official that goalkeeper Zac Lubin will be between the posts for the Roughnecks in their first season in USL. The 6' 5" keeper has been in Tulsa the past two weeks and has posted a pair of shutouts in preseason friendlies. He was named the Man of the Match by the Roustabouts following his performance against the University of Tulsa.
Lubin is a native of Bozeman, Montana and, like Roughnecks midfielder Oscar Jimenez, is a former member of the Seattle Sounders Under-23 squad. In addition, Tulsa midfielder/forward Gibson Bardsley is from Fall City, Washington and played collegiately with Jimenez at Western Washington University.
"We are pleased to have secured the signing of Zac," said Irving. "He's someone I identified this winter in San Diego and is a goalkeeper with a great deal of potential that has the ability to play at the next level in Major League Soccer."
"Zac has great size, is an excellent shot stopper and is a leader on the field. During the last few years he's gained good experience playing with the Sounders U23's and professionally at a good level in Sweden and we are looking forward to having him make a big impact with us this season."
The 25-year-old Lubin spent the 2013 season with the Sounders after playing in the PDL with Kitsap Pumas.
In 2014, he made the move to Europe after signing a professional contract with IFK Lulea, a first division team in Sweden. He was the primary keeper for Lulea, appearing in 20 games.
Lubin also had a trial with Irish Premier League side Cork City.
The Roughnecks will play their first-ever game at ONEOK Field on Saturday when they host Saint Louis FC in their final preseason friendly. One week later, on Saturday, March 28, they will host Oklahoma City Energy FC in downtown Tulsa in their USL regular season debut.
