Roughnecks Acquire Former Jayhawk, Marc Jones

ODESSA, TX: The Odessa Roughnecks announced on Wednesday, April 22, that the organization has acquired former Kansas Jayhawks TE Marc Jones. Jones transferred to Kansas University and played two seasons with the Jayhawks (2006, 2007) program after two seasons with Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas. The 6'2", 250 lbs. Jones played in nine games with Kansas in 2006 and was a valuable blocker in the Jayhawk running game. Jones played in four games for Kansas in 2007 including sufficient playing time in the 2008 Orange Bowl win over Virginia Tech, 24-21, on January 3, 2008. Following Kansas, Jones held stints with the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints before coming over to the Roughnecks.

Jones spent two seasons at Kilgore College (2004, 2005) with Head Coach Jimmy Rivers and helped the Kilgore program win the SWJC Championship in 2004.

"I'm looking forward to joining the Roughnecks and helping the team get back on track. I'm excited about being on the defensive line and being a part of such a great organization." stated Jones.

The former teammate of former Roughnecks DL Rodney Allen is a graduate of Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk, Virginia. Jones was named All-District and All-Region at tight end in 2002-2003 after hauling in 13 receptions for 310 yards as a senior. Jones helped Lake Taylor capture a pair of Eastern District Titles in 2000 and 2002.

"We brought in Marc to fill in the loss of Rodney Allen and Steven Kennedy. We are excited to have a player like Marc who has experience at the Division-1A college and NFL levels. He will be a key member of our defensive line." stated Odessa Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.
