April 22, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
El Paso Generals News Release

EL PASO, TX: The El Paso Generals (2-1) will once again play host to the Corpus Christi Hammerheads (1-2) on Saturday, April 25 from the El Paso County Coliseum. This is the third time in four weeks that El Paso and Corpus have hooked up to play one another with the season series tied at one apiece heading into the weekend. The Generals are coming off a come-from-behind win over the Odessa Roughnecks, 77-66, on last Saturday, April 18. The Generals defense turned things around in the second half by intercepting Roughnecks QB Dennis Gile and returning it to the house for a touchdown. Touchdown passes from QB Tommy Jones to WR DeAngelo and WR Lemans Casimier allowed El Paso to grab their first lead of the game late in the third quarter. Blocked kicks from the Generals special teams and conversions on third and fourth down were key factors that contributed to the comeback for the Generals. Ulysses Odom added a late four-yard touchdown run to extend El Paso's lead to 77-66. Odessa could not counter with any points and therefore El Paso ran out the clock to clinch their second win of the season.

El Paso faces a Corpus Christi squad that is coming off a heart-breaking loss to the Abilene Ruff Riders on Saturday, April 18, 33-27. Corpus held the lead for much of the game but a last-second blocked field goal returned for a touchdown gave the lead to the Ruff Riders and essentially the game.

Corpus will look to bounce back against a very pass-friendly El Paso Generals team that has so far flourished under Head Coach Brian Brents. El Paso has plenty of weapons to throw to including WR DeAngelo Woodie who leads the team in receptions, touchdown receptions, and receiving yards. QB Tommy Jones is coming off one his worst first half performances of the season after throwing three interceptions against Odessa (four total). However he managed to finish the evening with eight touchdown passes, the most of any Indoor Football League quarterback this season.

The Hammerheads defense played tough against the Abilene Ruff Riders but they will have to contend with an offense loaded with talents receivers and RB Ulysses Odom. Starting Hammerheads QB Michael Bishop must improve this week after going 5-for-22 with 116 yards passing against Abilene last weekend. Bishop will look to go to WR Nathaniel Dunn who leads Corpus with 220 receiving yards and four touchdowns. This is the second home game of the young season for the Generals and kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Next week, El Paso returns to the road to face the San Angelo Stampede Express who sit atop the Lone Star Division currently at 2-0.
