Rosenbaum's Complete Game Not Enough for P-Nats

(Woodbridge, VA) For the third consecutive game, the Potomac Nationals scored just one run. Unlike the previous two nights, however, a single run was not enough and the Nats dropped the finale of their four-game set with the Lynchburg Hillcats 3-1.

The Nationals came into the game riding a streak of 20 innings without allowing a run; that streak came to an end only just three batters into the game. After a leadoff double by the 'Cats shortstop Andrelton Simmons, Phil Gosselin hammered an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall that put Lynchburg ahead 2-0.

Nationals starting pitcher Danny Rosenbaum settled down immediately and retired 13 of his next 14 hitters.

In the top of the 6th, Rosenbaum gave up his first walk of the game and paid the price. After his first balk of the season moved Simmons runner to second, Christian Bethancourt sacrificed him to third. Simmons scored on Gosselin's sacrifice fly.

Hillcats starter Dimasther Delgado was outstanding for six innings, holding the Nationals to just three hits and striking out five. Matt Crim was brought on to pitch the seventh, and the Nationals got on the board. Sandy Leon blasted a line drive home run to left field to trim the deficit to two.

Eliecer Cardenas retired Potomac in order in the eighth with just seven pitches.

The Nats threatened in the bottom of the 9th, when a single by Leon (his third hit) put runners on the corners with two outs. But Steven Souza grounded out on one pitch from Ryan Buchter, who earned his ninth save in as many opportunities.

Potomac finished the seven-game homestand with five wins. After an off day Thursday, the team will travel to Winston-Salem for a three-game weekend set with the Dash. First pitch Friday is 7:05; the pregame show can be heard beginning at 6:45.
