Roots Earn Another Draw as Goalkeeper Taylor Bailey Picks up the Clean Sheet
Published on July 8, 2021 under United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Oakland Roots News Release
Oakland Roots battled hard against their NorCal Rivals, but once again nothing was able to separate the two sides after 90 minutes. Roots Keeper Taylor Bailey started his first-ever USL game and was able to keep Sacramento from scoring with a couple of key saves. Roots now prepare to host 3 games in 8 days at home, starting with Las Vegas Lights on Saturday.
Head Coach Jordan Ferrell on another clean sheet what it says about the defensive growth:
Leaps and bounds. Not just the clean sheet tonight, but also the way in which they went about it. Taylor getting his first start, big credit to him, but we have a really strong group who has found that identity and the way they go about their business week to week and game to game. They expect a clean sheet now, which at the beginning of the season was a different story.
On the play of Taylor Bailey and his overall work ethic:
Honestly he was incredible, not just the performance as a goalkeeper but psychologically. What he has been through in the last year, with the injury and COVID-19, then coming into the preseason and earning a spot. He really has earned everything and it proved tonight.
Taylor Bailey on his first USL start and first USL clean sheet:
It was amazing, it was good to get it away too against a good team. They were on the attack a lot but we all held it down. I could not be happier.
On the collective team effort defensively:
That's always. We go through a lot together and we stay together and we are all here to eat.
