Sporting Kansas City II News Release
Sporting Kansas City II (2-7-4, 10 points) will continue their USL Championship campaign on Saturday by visiting Atlanta United 2 (3-4-4, 13 points) for the second time this season. The Central Division showdown at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia, will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and stream live on ESPN Plus.
Led by fourth-year head coach and former Sporting Kansas City midfielder Paulo Nagamura, Sporting KC II are looking to bounce back from a 4-2 home defeat to Louisville City FC on July 2 that saw rookie Rojay Smith bag his fourth goal of 2021 and 17-year-old academy product Coby Jones open his scoring account at the professional level.
Smith's goal haul is tied for the team lead alongside Enoch Mushagalusa, while on-loan MLS Homegrown Players Tyler Freeman (three goals, one assist) and Grayson Barber (one goal, two assists) have also made palpable impacts going forward for Sporting KC II.
Atlanta United 2 have gone winless in four straight matches, a barren run that began with an entertaining 2-2 home draw against SKC II on June 9. The back-and-forth affair produced four goals in 13 breathless minutes as the visitors twice took the lead through Mushagalusa, only for Bradley Kamdem and Coleman Gannon draw level for the hosts.
Atlanta will make return trips to Kansas City later this season, trekking to Children's Mercy Park on Aug. 14 and Oct. 13.
