San Diego - San Diego Loyal SC has traded Thomas Vancaeyezeele to fellow USL Championship side Birmingham Legion FC, where he signed a multi-year contract pending league and federation approval. SD Loyal will receive undisclosed cash considerations from the trade.

"My first priority as the manager of this club is to do what's in the best interest of our team. Birmingham approached us about acquiring Thomas (Vancaeyezeele) and made us an offer that was too good to turn down," said SD Loyal Manager Landon Donovan. "We appreciate what Thomas contributed in his time with our club and we wish him the very best."

Vancaeyezeele spent the first part of the 2021 season with SD Loyal, starting in seven of the club's first eight games of the season before joining the French Guiana National Team for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup qualification matches. The French Guiana made it to the final round of qualification before losing to Trinidad and Tobago this past Tuesday night in a penalty shootout. Vancaeyezeele started and played the full 90 minutes in the match and scored his penalty kick chance.

Vancaeyezeele had established himself as one of the top defenders in the USL Championship while playing with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds from 2018 to 2020, before joining SD Loyal. He also earned a place on the 2019 All-League Second Team and was named to the 2020 All-League First Team.
