
Roosters split exhibition games

Richmond, Indiana - The Richmond Roosters split games with the Florence Freedom in their exhibition debut on Sunday. Florence won the opener 6-1, but the Roosters looked impressive in the 6-0 nightcap victory.
Chris Spigner started in game one for the Roosters and pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing two runs and three hits. He was followed in relief by Curt Moenter, Mark Schuurman, Ricky Rodriguez, and Ryan West who pitched one inning each. The lone Roosters run came in the bottom of the first when Rafael Lara lead off with a double to left and he scored two batters later on a sacrifice groundout by Justin Hancock.
Florence jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a leadoff solo homerun in the first by Justin Rahschulte. Behind the starting pitching of Bobby Graves, the lead grew with single runs in the third and fifth innings. The Freedom added three more in the seventh to secure the win.

The Roosters got solid pitching from Josh Neitz in game two. Neitz went three innings and allowed just one hit. He was followed by Steve Strohm, Richard Barkley, and Jordan Butler for one inning each. The Roosters jumped out early with a leadoff single by Mike Reese. He would advance to second and then third on stolen bases and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Mike Croley. Richmond added a run in the fourth when Josh Hollingsworth reached on a two out error and was driven in by Jose Sandoval Jr.'s double to right. Sandoval Jr. finished 2 for 2 with a double and a triple. The final Roosters runs came in the fifth when Florence relief pitcher Justin Sibbersen walked three batters which was followed by back to back hits. The second game was shortened to six innings.

The Roosters are next in action for the regular season opener on Friday May 21st at 6:35pm against Chillicothe.
