
RiverHawks split exhibition doubleheader

ROCKFORD, Ill. â The Rockford RiverHawks wrapped up their exhibition schedule with a split of a doubleheader against the Windy City Thunderbolts. The RiverHawks started with a 5-1 win but lost the nightcap, 5-2, in a game that was shortened due to weather in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the opener, Rockford started the scoring in the bottom half of the first when Brian Baron drove in Rico Santana with a sacrifice fly to left field. The RiverHawks busted the score open in the fourth thanks to a Ben Fjelland RBI single and a two-run single by Kiley Vaughn.
Rockford starter Frank James picked up the win. James pitched three scoreless innings and had two strikeouts. Aaron Bolton picked up the loss for Windy City, giving up five earned runs in four innings pitched.
In the nightcap, Patrick Williams broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run home run off of RiverHawks pitcher Adam Palmer.
Darren Heinrichs picked up the win, pitching only two innings, striking out one and giving up no runs. Palmer took the loss for Rockford, pitching two innings and giving up three runs, all of them earned.
The RiverHawks finished the exhibition schedule 3-1 with all games coming against Windy City.
The RiverHawks begin their third season at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Windy City. The âHawks open the home schedule at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 25 against the Springfield/Ozark Ducks at Marinelli Field. All games will be broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 â the Hub and at the team website. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 12th season.
