In the opener, Rockford rallied for three runs in the top of the second inning on back-to-back homers by Ben Fjelland and Kevin Ciarrachi and took a 3-1 lead. The RiverHawks, who never lost the lead, added two runs in the third, four in the fourth and five in the sixth. Rich Austin had two RBI singles for Rockford.
Rockford starter Scott Sobkowiak struck out five hitters, three of them looking, in four innings for the win. Josh Tomsu pitched three hitless innings for the save.
