
Roosters Continue Hot Hitting, Defeat Wild Things 6-3

RICHMOND, IN â The Richmond Roosters (4-0) kicked off their 2002 home campaign with style knocking off the Washington Wild Things (1-3) 6-3 on Saturday night in front 2,184 rowdy fans, the largest opening day crowd in the history of the franchise. Roosters CF Phil Willingham had a three run homerun in the fifth inning that proved to be the game winner. Fran Riordan went 2-for-3 with the other three RBI for the Roosters.
Rookie RHP Enriques Baca went 7 2/3 innings giving up only two earned runs on six hits while striking out six batters. RHP Chad Sosebee pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up his first save of the season.
LHP Jared Howton got the loss giving up five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. The Wild Things were led offensively by LF Joe Cuervo who went 1-for-4 doubling in two runs in the 8th inning. RF Casey Stone drove in the Wild Things other run.
The Roosters and the Wild Things continue their three game series Sunday, June 2nd at 4:35 PM. The Roosters will send RHP Mike Kraemer to the mound to face LHP Jason Hickman.
