Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles announced today that they have signed rookie forward Braden Desmet. The gritty, 5-foot-11-inch, 190-pound forward has a history of offensive production in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and in the NCAA with the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

In three seasons in the AJHL, the Strathmore, Alberta native put up 162 points (58-104-162) in 177 games. He led his team in scoring all three seasons (the first two with the Drumheller Dragons, the last with the Olds Grizzlys) and played in the league's 2005-06 All-Star Game.

"My contacts with the Grizzlys have given glowing recommendations of Braden and assured me that he's the type of player we want to bring to Colorado," said Eagles president, general manager and head coach, Chris Stewart. Stewart coached the Grizzlys to an early-90s dynasty that saw them win three consecutive league championships ('92, '93, '94) as well as a national championship ('94).

Desmet followed up his impressive time at the Junior "A" level with an increased point-per-game pace in four years collegiately, registering 100 points (38-62-100) in 92 games with the Yellowjackets. At the collegiate level, he continued to lead his teams in scoring, doing so as a freshman and again as a junior. In addition, he was twice named to the All-WIAC 1st Team and once a 1st Team All-American.

The signing brings the number of players under contract with the team for the upcoming season to 10 (listed below).

The puck drops on the 2010-11 season on Saturday, Oct. 9 when the Eagles take on the Odessa Jackalopes in a preseason game at the Budweiser Events Center; the regular season begins on Friday, Oct. 15. Tickets for all Eagles home games will go on sale Saturday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased by visiting the BEC Box Office, calling 1-877-544-TIXX (8499) or online at www.ComcastTix.com.
