Sundogs Add Defenseman Mike Novosad

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today the team has added defenseman Mike Novosad for the upcoming 2010-11 Central Hockey League season.
Novosad, 26, appeared in 44 games with Sherbrooke St. Francois of the Ligue Nord Americaine de Hockey (LNAH) last season collecting six goals, 26 assists and 29 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-foot-1, 205-pound blue liner also skated with Sherbrooke during the 2007-08 season notching 20 points (9g/11a) and 27 PIM in 50 games.
"Mike is a gritty, hard-nosed defenseman that will add size and skill to our blue line," noted Pietroniro. "He will establish a presence on the ice and in our defensive zone. We're pleased to add Mike to our roster for the 2010-11 season."
During the 2008-09 season Novosad skated overseas in France's top league (Ligue Magnus) with pro club Diables Noirs de Tours tallying three goals, 12 assists and 28 PIM in 26 contests.
Prior to turning pro, the Candiac, Quebec, native played two years of NCAA collegiate hockey and one year of ACHA collegiate hockey at Niagara University in New York. In two seasons of NCAA hockey with the Purple Eagles Novosad amassed one goal, nine assists and 67 PIM in 56 appearances. In one season of ACHA hockey the d-man averaged nearly two points per game netting 18 goals and 28 assists in just 26 games.
Novosad joins forwards Joey Sides, Adam Smyth and Chase Watson, defenseman Tyler Butler and goaltender Doug Groenestege as players under contract with Arizona for the 2010-11 season.
