New Haven County Cutters News Release
WEST HAVEN, CT - When the New Haven County Cutters open post season play against the Brockton Rox Wednesday night at Historic Yale Field, manager Mike Church has announced that taking the mound as their Game One starter will be LHP Rolando Valles.
Valles has served as the Cutters ace all season, going 9-5 with a 2.81 ERA (sixth-best in the league) in 18 starts. A 2006 All-Star Team selection, Valles has held opponents to a .231 batting average this year while averaging just 1.75 walks per 9.0 innings.
Valles has pitched his best baseball down the stretch for the Cutters, going 3-0 in his last three starts with a 1.40 ERA while issuing just one walk.
The Venezuelan native was the Cutters Game 1 starter in last season's opening round playoff series against the Worcester Tornadoes. He allowed one run on six hits and struck out seven in 7.1 innings and earned the win. The Cutters ultimately fell to the Tornadoes, 3-1.
