Rogues Win Third Straight

June 11, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Medford Rogues News Release

MEDFORD, OR - For the second time in as many days, the Rogues defeated the Bend Elks 4-2 at Harry and David Field tonight and now lead the series 2-0. The Rogues improved to 3-2 in league play while the Elks dropped to 2-3.

Returning 2013 Rogue John Forsythe started on the mound of the Rogues and instantly entered into a pitcher's duel with counterpart Michael Bennett. Forsythe (1-0) pitched six solid innings for the Rogues giving up five hits for two runs with two walks and two strikeouts before being relieved by Dylan Ramage in the seventh.

Unlike Monday night, the Elks were the first to put a score on the board by grabbing a run at the top of the first. The Elks held that lead until the bottom of the second when the Rogues found themselves up 2-1 and back in command. Third baseman Andre Vigil drove home two runners following a single turned double thanks to an error by the Elks' second baseman.

The Elks fought back to grab a run at the top of the fifth and put themselves within one run at 3-2 before a Levi Pereira sacrifice fly allowed Victor Garcia to come home and put the Rogues up 4-2. Garcia, Monday's home run hero, was greeted warmly by the crowd each time he stepped up to bat but couldn't replicate yesterday's form. Garcia ended the game with three at bats, one run, and one walk while his batting average for the season sits at .286.

Pitcher Shane Quarterley closed out the game for the Rogues with an impressive no hits and no runs with four strikeouts to preserve the win and ensure the Rogues took the 2-0 series lead. Quarterley's four strikeouts were the equivalent of what starter Forsythe and reliever Dylan Ramage threw all night.

The Rogues once again showcased their immense potential for the season much to the delight of the 1,136 fans who were in attendance. Many were in association with the Central Point Little League Association who were honored at the beginning of the game with an $836 check from the Rogues for their fundraising efforts.

The Rogues are in action again tomorrow against the Bend Elks as they face off in the third game of the four game series. Game time is set for 6:35p.m. with gates opening at 5:30p.m.
