Rogues Sweep Cowlitz
June 23, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - With a chance to extend its division lead over Corvallis to two games, the Medford Rogues hung on after an early lead and defeated Cowlitz 7-6 tonight at Harry & David Field.
A three-run second inning set the pace for Medford as a single by DH Nathan Etheridge preceded a walk to 3B Adonis Morrison. After C Tanner Lubach moved the runners ahead, Etheridge scored on a single by RF Blaine Tanner. Tanner later scored on a sacrifice fly by 2B Joe Chavez to give Medford a 3-0 lead. After a three-run fourth tied it for Cowlitz, single Medford runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh made it a 7-3 lead. Late bullpen struggles allowed three Black Bears runs in the ninth but RP Shane Quarterley got the final two outs for his third save of the year.
Rogues starter Brandon Erickson (2-1) went six strong innings for the win, while Etheridge, Lubach, Tanner and 1B Chris DeVito each had two hits to lead the 10-hit Medford attack. Taking the loss for Cowlitz was Kohl Hostert (1-1).
Medford moves to 10-3 in West Coast League play, the best record in the WCL and a two-game lead over Corvallis in the WCL South.
The Rogues now play WCL South Division rival Klamath Falls six of the next seven days, with only a non-league game against Athletes in Motion on Thursday breaking the streak. Medford visits Klamath Falls Monday and Tuesday while the Gems come to Harry & David Field on Wednesday. The Rogues travel to Klamath Falls Friday through Saturday.
