MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues and the Kitsap BlueJackets faced off in game one of their three game series at Harry and David Field. The Rogues, after being swept by the Victoria Harbourcats, were looking to get back on the winning path, and that they did with a 13-1 win over the BlueJackets.
Scoring for the Rogues started in the third inning after Tim Lichty, Derron Davis and Brock Pradere all crossed the plate, putting Medford on the board with the 3-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Billy Fredrick hit a grand slam over the right field fence, extending the Rogues lead to 7-0. Medford had another big inning in the sixth, plating five more runs off another RBI single by Fredrick and a two-RBI double by Nathan Etheridge. The BlueJackets were able to score one run off an RBI single by Jake Scudder putting Kitsap on the board, 12-1. Stefan Panayioutou scored the last run of the game in the bottom of the eighth with a lead-off solo home run, making the final score, 13-1.
Designated hitter Billy Fredrick led the offensive side of things for the Rogues, with one home run, six RBIs and two runs scored. His batting average now improves to .286 on the season. Stefan Panayioutou was also strong at the plate with a home run of his own and two runs scored. Panayioutou now has a batting average of .254.
Max Bethell got the start and the win for the Rogues, going three innings, giving up three hits, no runs, striking out two and walking one. His ERA now sits at 4.71. Gabe Gentner, Jamie Flynn, Daniel Ferrell and Justin Mulvaney also made appearances on the mound for the Rogues.
The Rogues and BlueJackets face off again tomorrow night at 6:35pm for game two at Harry and David Field.
