Rogues Extend Division Lead

MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues defeated the visiting Wenatchee AppleSox with a solid 7-2 victory this afternoon at Harry and David Field. With the win, the Rogues took the three game series 2-1 and now stand at 7-3 in West Coast League play, the best record in the WCL. The win, combined with a Corvallis loss this afternoon, also the Rogues 1 ½ games ahead of the Knights for first place of the South Division of the WCL.

The Rogues jumped to an early lead as a double by first baseman Victor Garcia brought in second baseman Yuto Kata for a score at the bottom of the first.

The AppleSox equalized in the top of third to leave the score at 1-1 before the Rogues retaliated with four runs to go up 5-1 in the bottom of the third. Two RBI each by catcher Tanner Lubach and shortstop Tucker Campbell led the Rogues scoring drive while third baseman Adonis Morrison and left fielder Blaine Tanner each recorded an RBI to complete the scoreline. Lubach's five at bats, two hits, and two RBI on the day leaves him just behind Kata (.355) for the team lead with an average of .353.

On the mound, the Rogues rotated through four pitchers starting with Nathan Kutcha (1-0, 1.29) who pitched six innings, giving up four hits, one earned run, three walks, and two strikeouts. Kutcha's earned run average for the season now sits at 1.29. Cooper Stiles, David Peterson, and Matt Loeffler each pitched an inning to close out the game for the Rogues.

Wenatchee's Drew Rasmussen (0-1) gave up 11 hits and seven runs through five innings to take the loss for the AppleSox. Two relievers allowed only one Medford hit through the last three innings but the damage had already been done.

The Rogues are in action next against Top Speed for a pair of Non-League games on June 18 and 19 at Harry and David Field. The next league outing for the Rogues is a three game series against the Cowlitz Black Bears from June 20 to 22 at Harry and David Field.

The West Coast League is a 12-team collegiate wood-bat baseball league composed of the best college players, coaches, facilities and operators in the industry. Ranging from Medford, Oregon north to Kelowna, B.C., and the league has operated as the WCL since 2005. In June, 56 WCL players were selected in the Major League draft.
