
Rodriguez Signs with Padres

EL PASO, TX - Former Diablo Catcher Eddy Rodriguez has been sold to the San Diego Padres. Rodriguez becomes the eighth American Association player sold to a major league organization since the end of the 2010 season. Rodriguez joined the Diablos in 2009.
Rodriguez played in 80 games this past season with the Sioux Falls Pheasants. The Miami, FL resident batted .259 with 13 home runs and 55 runs batted in. He also scored 44 runs, hammered out 75 hits, including 20 doubles and one triple and walked 18 times.
The 25-year-old Rodriguez was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 20th Round of the 2006 amateur entry draft. He played two plus seasons in the Reds farm system before joining the independent ranks with El Paso (American Association) and Bridgeport (Atlantic League) in 2009.
The Diablos will begin their season with three exhibition games divided between the Las Cruces Vaqueros (May 1st and May 8th) and the Heroes of the Diamond: Red, White and Blue Tour (May 7th). The first league face off will be May 14th against the Kansas City T-Bones, a new team to the American Association.
