WILMINGTON, DE – A Chris Fallon two-run homerun jump-started the Wilmington Blue Rocks as they scored three times in the third inning and held on to beat the Salem Avalanche, 3-2, Monday night at Frawley Stadium. The Rocks are alone in first place of the Northern Division for the first time in 2003.

The Blue Rocks (19-10) trailed 1-0 in the third when Ruben Gotay drew a two-out walk and Fallon smacked his fifth homerun of the season to put the Rocks ahead, 2-1. Salem pitcher Manny Santillan (0-2) allowed a third run to score in the inning when Scott Walter drew a walk and scored on a Trey Dyson RBI double to center field.

The Salem Avalanche (12-16) got on the board with a run in the second as Hector Gimenez scored on a Ryan Stegall fielder's choice. It would be the first time this season that Blue Rocks starter Kyle Middleton (5-1) trailed at home. Middleton worked six innings, allowing the lone run on five hits, walking two and fanning one. Zach McClellan pitched two innings, allowing a run on a hit, while walking one and fanning another. Brad Stiles (2) pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his second save of the season.

With the win, Middleton became the Carolina League leader in wins with five. The Rocks are now nine games above the .500 mark and have won 15 of 17 games.
