New York Boulders News Release

(RAMAPO, N.Y) - After winning two in a row against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles, the Boulders took a 3-1 loss in the series finale at Provident Bank Park. Two homeruns by the Aigles would be all Trois-Rivieres would need to do the damage, stopping the Boulders from sweeping the three-game set.

Elvin Millan Jr. got the scoring started for the Aigles (20-39) in the top of the third with a solo-homerun to right field, putting the Aigles up 1-0. Then, after the Boulders (33-24) went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning, Trois-Rivieres followed with another two runs in the top of the fourth off of another Aigles homerun. After starter Richard Salazar walked Jose Cuevas to begin the fourth, Steve Brown went on to hit the second Aigles homerun of the night, a two-run homerun to left, giving the Aigles a quick 3-0 advantage.

The Boulders were finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth innng. After Aigles starter Ryan Bollinger retired nine in a row, the Boulders would go on to get four consecutives hits to cut the deficit to 3-1. O'Hare started the rally with a two-out blooper to centerfield and Junior Arrojo would follow with bunt single, putting runners on first and second. Matt Nandin and Antone DeJesus would go on to hit back-to-back infield singles to make it a 3-1 ballgame after fives innings.

The next three innings would prove to be scoreless and Rockland had the chance to make a comeback in the bottom of the eighth after DeJesus lead it off for the Boulders with a single to center. An Edmondson walk then put runners on first and second but the Boulders could not optimize, leaving the score at 3-1. The Boulders would go on to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the ninth inning after Marcus Nidiffer roped a solo-homerun to centerfield. Unfortunately, this would prove to be all the Boulders could do in the inning, giving them a hard-luck 3-2 loss.

Salazar took the loss for the Boulders after coming into the game winning his last five decisions. Salazar ended up going six and one-third innings for Rockland, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out three and walking two. Ryan Bollinger picked up the win for the Aigles after pitching seven and one-third innings, only giving up one run on six hits while striking out two and walking three.

Nandin and DeJesus both had multi-hit games for Rockland, combining for four of the Boulders seven total hits. The Boulders will play a four-game set against the Quebec Capitales before an off day on Tuesday. They will then play the New Jersey Jackals on Wednesday, July 30 and return to Provident Bank Park on Thursday to complete the four-game set.
