Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

The GJ Rockies put on a solid team performance beating the Northern Colorado Owlz 3-0.

The bats were quiet early but the Rockies transformed their lone early hit into a run. Josh Elvir singled, stole second and scored after a pair of ground balls by Shawn Ross and Austin Elder.

After a thirty minute rain delay, Casey Petersen came up to bat in the bottom of the fourth and hit a two run home run scoring Charles Middleton. The home run was Petersen's fifth of the season.

Izzy Fuentes got the start and threw five strong innings, gathering five strikeouts.

Fuentes' mindset going into tonight's game was simple. Attack the zone.

"Attack the zone, throw strikes and let my defense do the rest," Fuentes said.

He had solid defense behind him all night including a steller double play in the fifth by Alex Nielsen, Shawn Ross and Joe Johnson. The play preserved the shutout for Fuentes in his five innings of work.

"It gives you such confidence in where you are going and you are riding the wave. That is the motto right now," Fuentes said.

Fuentes' start was followed by a relief appearance from Roberto Baldenebro who threw two innings and did not give up a hit. Michael Townsend had a one hit inning of work in the eighth that followed Baldenebro's performance. Trevin Reynolds got the save, his fourth of the season.

The Rockies remain one game out of first place and meet the Owlz tomorrow for game three starting at 6:35 p.m.
