Midland RockHounds News Release

It was like the "old days." Actually, the "fabeled old ballpark" across town (Christensen Stadium, home of the Cubs, Angels, and RockHounds from 1972-2001) rarely saw a game like this.

The RockHounds and Corpus Christi Hooks combined for 30 runs on 30 hits, with four lead changes and a (combined) 11-run eighth inning. The 'Hounds scored NINE times in the eighth, erasing an 11-10 deficit to win by the final score of 19-11.

In the eighth inning, each of the first EIGHT RockHounds batters reached base and came around to score. The first out of the inning was an RBI (Jake Goebbert's sacrifice fly).

The RockHounds scored the game's first run, but fell behind, 4-1, in the second inning, and trailed by as many as five (7-2). D'Arby Myers' three-run home run in the fourth got the 'Hounds back to within 7-6, but Corpus Christi's Erik Castro answered with his second home run in as many games, with the two-run shot giving Corpus a 9-6 lead.

Darwin Perez and Tyler Ladendorf each had a two-run single in a four-run fifth inning, with the 'Hounds regaining a 10-9 lead after five. From there, the clubs actually played two scoreless innings, with the RockHounds leaving the bases loaded in the seventh and the Hooks making them pay. Corpus scored twice in the top of the eighth for their last lead at 11-10. Thirteen batters and nine runs later, the home half of the eighth had decided the game.

South Division

Corpus Christi's lead over Frisco is down to one game, with San Antonio trailing by three and the 'hounds four games back. There are 26 games remaining in the first half pennant race.

Kibbles & Bits

- D'Arby Myers led the RockHounds going 4-for-6 with a double, a three-run home run and a total of five RBI. D'Arby is 17-for-37 (.460) in his last nine games and 15-for-30 (.500) in his last seven.

- Anthony Aliotti extended his on-base streak to 17 games. In that span, the RockHounds' first baseman is hitting .433 (26-of-60) with an OBP of .556 (on-base in 40-of-72 plate appearances). "Ali" leads the Texas league with a .372 batting average.

- Chad Oberacker has now hit in 10-of-11 games, going 17-for-44 (.386) in that stretch.
