Midland RockHounds News Release

Six RockHounds will take part in the Texas League All-Star game this Wednesday in Springfield, Missouri. Anthony Recker, Jon Zeringue, Vincent Mazzaro, Andrew Carignan, James Simmons and Tommy Everidge are making the trip to Hammons Field to represent the team in the annual summer classic.

Another RockHound, Jesus Guzman, was selected to the team as a starter, but will be unable t participate after being promoted to Triple-A Sacramento last weekend.

Fresh Faces

A complete transformation in the RockHounds roster has occurred over the last week and a half. Two highly regarded pitching prospects joined the team this weekend. Trevor Cahill, who made his debut last Friday, and Brett Anderson, who was actually born in Midland back in 1988, hope to stabilize the starting rotation in the second half. Cahill and Anderson, both 20 year olds, are considered top prospects within the Oakland organization.

Michael Affronti and Brad Knox also joined the team last weekend when Jesus Guzman got the call to Sacramento. Affronti is in his third full professional season and should split time between second and third base. Knox has played parts of the last two seasons with the RockHounds and had pitched the first half of 2008 with the Sacramento RiverCats.

The RockHounds also have added a familiar face in the bullpen. Steve Sharpe, a Texas League All-Star a year ago, rejoins the club after having his season cut short in 2007 with arm surgery.

The RockHounds will continue the second half of the season on Thursday, June 26th in Little Rock, Arkansas.
