Rockford IceHogs News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.-The Rockford IceHogs were handed their first loss of the season and it was at the same site where they suffered their final loss last season. The Fort Wayne Komets topped Rockford 3-1 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne on Saturday night. The Hogs were insufficient on the power play, going 0-for-12.

Fort Wayne grabbed the 2-0 lead midway through the first period. Center Dustin Virag was first to strike when he deflected in a Jason Kean shot past Hogs goalie Michel Robinson at 6:54. At 9:35 winger P.C. Drouin knocked the Komets second goal of the night past Robinson.

Rockford would cut the lead in half less then a minute later when Jason Notermann tipped in a Greg Barber shot past Komets goaltender Derek Dolson at 10:22. But Fort Wayne defenseman Guy Dupuis lit the Komets third lamp of the night at 3:22 of the second period giving them enough cushion to hang on for the win.

The game was delayed for nearly 20 minutes at the 11:16 mark of the second period after a five-on-five ruckus broke out resulting in 84 minutes of penalty time, including a pair of game misconducts for the Hogs Billy Tibbetts and the Komets David Carpentier. Robinson finished the contest with 34 saves and suffered his first loss of the season.
