Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- After suffering their first loss of the 2005-06 season on Saturday night, the Rockford IceHogs returned home to knock off the Missouri River Otters 3-2 at the Rockford MetroCentre on Sunday afternoon. The IceHogs extended their club-record home winning streak to 7 games with the win.
The Hogs netted the contests first goal at 6:08 of the opening period. Winger Greg Barber picked up a rebound from a Bob Nardella shot and beat Otters goalie Brenden Cuthbert for the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Nardella would help propel the Hogs to a two-goal advantage. While shorthanded, Nardella set up winger Jason Notermann perfectly on a 2-on-1 breakaway at 15:24 of the middle frame.
Later in the second period, Hogs center Olivier Proulx fired home a pretty feed from rookie winger Chaz Johnson for the 3-0 lead at 17:09. Missouri responded with a goal just 11 seconds later when winger Jimmy Callahan punched in the Otters first goal past Ronnie Vogel.
In the final period Missouri made things interesting when Brad MacMillan's shot deflected over Vogel's shoulder at 12:16 to make it a 3-2 game. That's all the River Otters could muster, however, and Rockford held on for their 10th win.
Vogel picked up his sixth win of the season stopping 16 Missouri shots, while Cuthbert sparkled with 42 saves but was given the loss. The IceHogs struggled on the power play once again going 0-for-6, but held Missouri 0-for-4.
Next Home Game: Friday, November 18 vs. Motor City Mechanics. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Mechanics return to the MetroCentre to battle the Hogs. The first 1,000 fans will receive IceHogs Poster #2 in a series of seven from Medicine Man, Johnson Press and Pepsi.. Call (815) 968-5222 for tickets.
