Rockford Lightning News Release
Birch Run, MI- In what would be considered a preview of the 2004-05 CBA Eastern Conference Playoff series between Great Lakes and Rockford, the two teams needed an extra session to decide things at the Birch Run Expo Center Wednesday night. Great Lakes edged Rockford 17-14 in the overtime period, and took the contest 127-124. With the four quarter points they earned in the victory, Great Lakes clinched the CBA's Eastern Conference.
Rockford won the first two quarters, and went into the locker room at halftime leading 65-58, but Great Lakes stormed to a 13-2 run in the first four minutes of the third period. Rockford lost the third period 29-15, but outscored the Storm 27-20 in the fourth to tie the game and send it to overtime. Mark Jones had a chance to put the game away with a couple of free throws with seven seconds left in the extra session, but he missed the second foul shot attempt. Brian Lubeck rebounded the ball, but the Lightning were unable to get a shot off before the final horn.
Stais Boseman led the Lightning in the game, shooting 10-for-18 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to total 27 points. Marshall Phillips chipped in 25 points, including going 15-for-16 in free throws for the night. For the second straight game, Jermaine Tate led the rebounding, bringing down 12 rebounds. Tate also had a double double as he scored 20 points in the ball game. Jermaine Walker scored 16 points and dished out five assists in the contests, and Brian Lubeck rounded out the double digit scorers for the Bolts, tallying 17 points. Ezra Williams led the Great Lakes Storm, as he topped all scorers with 32 points for the evening.
