Rockford loses another close battle

Rockford, IL- Rockford returned to the MetroCentre Thursday night to face off against the Western Conference's first place team, the Dakota Wizards. Just like the last game at home, this one went to overtime, as the Lightning came close but fell short in a 124-120 loss.

Rockford got 30-plus performances by Brian Lubeck (35) and Brant Bailey (31). Bailey continued his hot free throw shooting, going 15-for-18 from the charity stripe. Lubeck was 12-for-27 from the floor in the contest, and also earned a double double as he brought down 11 rebounds. Cordell Henry started for the first time since joining the Lightning in place of Ronnie Fields, who did not dress on Thursday night, and tallied six assists to lead the Lightning in that department. The Bolts forced Dakota to 28 turnovers in the contest, but the Wizards defense held the Lightning to 42.1% from the floor. Maurice Baker led the scoring for Dakota, as he shot 9-of-17 from the floor to tally 25 points in the game. Rockford earned only two quarter points in Thursday's game, and drop to one game above the .500 mark at 18-17.

Join the Rockford Lightning for a Miller Lite "Meet and Greet" on Friday night at The Cave in the old Mayflower Restaurant building on North Second Street in Loves Park. Starting at 7 p.m., Lightning fans have another opportunity to talk to their favorite Lightning players, get autographs, and talk a little Lightning basketball.

Then, the Lightning return to action on Saturday, February 12 against another Western Conference opponent, the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 1:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a rally towel courtesy of Axberg Heating, Q98.5, UPN, and WTVO-17. America's Best Frisbee Dogs, the "Just 4 Kix" Dance Team and the Elite Defense team will entertain the crowd at halftime of Saturday's matinee. The Lightning end their weekend of contests against the Yakima Sun Kings at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday, February 13.
