Rockford hits road block

Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Things didn't quite go as planned on Sunday afternoon for the Rockford IceHogs, as they fell to the Kalamazoo Wings 6-0 at the Rockford MetroCentre. The loss was Rockford's worst of the season, but they still managed a 2-1-0 week.

Kalamazoo scored goals to match the number of each period, one in the first, two in the second and three in the third period. Defenseman Mark Vilneff notched the games first marker at 3:58 of the first period. In the second period, Hogs goalie Jeff Harvey left with an injury and was replaced by Michel Robinson.

Robinson was greeted rudely as winger Tim Turner blasted home a goal at 7:49. The K-Wings made it 3-0 later in the period when Tyler Willis tipped in a perfect feed from Kevin Kotyluk at 10:36. The assist was the first of four on the afternoon for Kotyluk.

The IceHogs began the third period on a 5-on-4 power play, but that changed after an illegal stick challenge failed and an un-sportsmanlike conduct penalty turned a power play into a penalty kill. Just as the Wings power play expired, David Struch knocked in Kalamazoo's fourth goal of the game at 2:13.

The Wings added two more markers in the third including Willis' second at 11:17. The scoring was capped by a power play goal from Yannick Carpentier with just 8-seconds remaining. Harvey was saddled with the loss while Joel Martin stopped all 26 Rockford shots to earn the shutout win.

Next Home Game: Sunday, December 19 vs. Motor City Mechanics. Game time is 1:05 p.m. The expansion Mechanics make their final visit to Rockford in 2004-05. It's another Family Four Pack Day. Fans can get four tickets, four hot dogs and soft drinks for only $40.
