Rockford Begins A Pair Against Hot Aeros

Houston, Tex.- With only two games over an 11-day span, this weekend's two-game set for the Rockford IceHogs in Houston against the Aeros is crucial. Rockford and Houston start a two-game weekend series tonight at the Toyota Center beginning at 7:05 p.m.

The IceHogs are 5-4-0-0 over their past nine contests, but match-up against an Aeros club that has won six straight games to pull back into the eighth and final playoff spot in the air-tight Western Conference. Rockford came away victorious in its last contest on Sunday, a 4-3 overtime win over the Iowa Stars.

Houston has five games at hand on the IceHogs and is seven points back in the standings.

Tonight's game is Rockford's second this season in Houston and fifth of six on the season series slate. The two clubs will conclude their regular season set on Saturday at the Toyota Center. Rockford topped the Aeros 3-2 back on Oct. 17 in the only meeting in Houston so far this season. Overall, Rockford is 2-2-0-0 against the West Division foe.

Center Kris Versteeg (back) and defenseman Kenny MacAulay (hand) did not make the trip to Texas and won't skate against the Aeros this weekend.

Teams in the West Division will finally begin to make up some games on the Hogs as Rockford has played more games than every other team in the division besides the last place Stars. Rockford currently holds a two-point edge for second place over the San Antonio Rampage who have four-games at hand on the IceHogs and five points more than the Milwaukee Admirals who have one-game to make up on Rockford.
