Rockford Aviators Add Outfielder Martinez from Texas Rangers Double-A Affiliate

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Playing baseball for the Rockford Aviators has become a family affair.
MKE Sports & Entertainment is pleased to announce that the Rockford Aviators have signed Teodoro Martinez . Teodoro is the younger brother of Jose Martinez who was a superstar for the Aviators last season and is now with the Kansas City Royals.
Martinez was named a two-time Texas League All-Star with the Frisco Rough Riders and has appeared on three different All-Star Game rosters throughout his career. He was also been named a Mid-Season All-Star in the Dominican Summer League in 2009 and a Postseason All-Star in the Arizona League in 2010 when he hit a career high .313.
"We are really excited to get this guy," said Rockford Aviators Field Manager James Frisbie. "You saw how big of an impact [Jose] made for us last year and I believe Teodoro can do the same this year."
Over the last two seasons, with the Rough Riders, the Double-A affiliate for the Rangers, Martinez appeared in 204 games. During that time, he racked up a .259 average with eighteen home runs, 91 RBIs, and swiped twenty-four bags.
Martinez will come in to fill a role in the outfield that was vacated when Edgar Corcino was purchased by the Minnesota Twins in January and former Frontier League Rookie of the Year finalist, Jeff Kremer, announced his retirement.
"We will look for [Teodoro] to make an immediate impact," said Frisbie. "He's got the talent and the skill and we are really lucky we were able to get him."
The Aviators open their 2015 campaign on the road against the Gateway Grizzlies on Friday, May 15 at 7:05 p.m. Opening Day at Aviators Stadium will be Tuesday, May 19 at 6:35 p.m. as the Aviators host the Traverse City Beach Bums.
