
Rockets retain spot at upcoming WHL Bantam Draft

The WHL held their Bantam Draft lottery at the WHL Office in Calgary earlier today to determine the order of the first six selections in the first round of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft. The Kelowna Rockets retained their spot of selecting fifth overall at the upcoming draft.
The WHL Bantam Draft Lottery involved the six non-playoff teams (Swift Current, Winnipeg, Regina, Prince George, Kelowna, and Brandon) from the 2018-19 WHL Regular Season. A team could only move up a maximum of two positions in the WHL Bantam Draft.
The WHL Bantam Draft lottery used a total of 21 balls, the allotment of which is as follows:
Swift Current* Six balls (Pick previously traded to Prince George)
Winnipeg Five balls
Regina** Four balls (Pick previously traded to Saskatoon)
Prince George Three balls
Kelowna Two balls
Brandon One ball
The allocation of odds for the lottery draw of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft Lottery is as follows:

The Winnipeg Ice won the lottery, leapfrogging them from the second position to first. Picks three through six remain the same, the draft order is set as follows:
1: Winnipeg Ice
2: Prince George (Pick previously traded by Swift Current)
3: Saskatoon Blades (Pick previously traded by Regina)
4: Prince George Cougars
5: Kelowna Rockets
6: Brandon Wheat Kings
This will be the highest first-round spot that the Rockets have had since the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft where they had the second overall pick. Tacoma/Kelowna has previously held the fifth overall pick twice.
The order of the second round and all other rounds of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft will be determined by the inverse order of final 2018-19 WHL Regular Season standings.
Players eligible for the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft will be 2004-born players who reside in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
The 2019 WHL Bantam Draft will be held in Red Deer, Alta., on Thursday, May 2, 2019.
