MCALLEN, Texas, February 17, 2014 - Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has re-assigned guard Isaiah Canaan to Houston's single-affiliation NBA D-League partner Rio Grande Valley.
Canaan (6-0, 188, Murray State), who was recalled by the Rockets on Jan. 30 after suffering a strained right hamstring in Rio Grande Valley's game vs. the Tulsa 66ers (1/27/14), has averaged 21.5 points, 8.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds in 17 games (16 starts) with Rio Grande Valley this season. At the time of his last recall, Canaan led the D-League in assists per game (8.1) and ranked seventh in the league in scoring average (21.5). He was named along with Pierre Jackson of the Idaho Stampede as the NBA D-League Co-Performers of the Week for games played Dec. 2-8. Canaan was again named along with Terrence Williams of the L.A. D-Fenders as D-League Co-Performers of the Week for games played Jan. 20-26. Selected by the Rockets with the 34th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Canaan was named to the NBA D-League All-Star Game, but was unable to attend due to injury (hamstring).
On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Vipers travel to Canton to face the charge in a 6 p.m. (CT) contest. Fans can watch live on the NBA Development League YouTube channel or listen live on Fox Sports 1700 AM.
