D-Fenders Defeat Bighorns

The D-Fenders (19-12) took it to the Bighorns (17-13) early with a 13-2 run through the first three and a half minutes of play. Los Angeles' quick start and six three-point field goals earned them a four-point advantage after one quarter. The D-Fenders were dealt an unfortunate blow in the second frame with an ejection of Terrence Williams following an offensive foul by the Bighorns. Despite the ejection, the D-Fenders forced Reno into nine turnovers, which led to 16 points and a six-point half-time edge. Overall, the D-Fenders never trailed and shot 55.0 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from the three-point line in the first half.

Los Angeles would continue their offensive proficiency in the third quarter and see their lead grow to 16 points half way through the period. Although Reno only converted 33.3 percent of their field goals in the third, the D-Fenders allowed the Bighorns to close the gap to five entering the final twelve minutes of play. In the fourth quarter, Los Angeles struggled to hold their advantage and allowed Reno to take their first lead of the game at the 7:47 mark. After falling behind by seven points with three minutes to play, Los Angeles mounted a 13-2 run to end the game and claim their 19th victory of the season.

James Southerland (25 points) led the scoring effort for the D-Fenders with seven three-point field goals. In addition, C.J. Williams (23 points, seven rebounds), Josh Magette (15 points, eight assists), Brandon Costner (13 points), Terrence Williams (12 points), Andre Ingram (12 points, eight assists) and Travis Hyman (10 points, eight rebounds, four blocks) all finished in double-digits for Los Angeles.

Mo Charlo led the charge for the Bighorns with 24 points and 15 rebounds. K.C. Rivers (25 points), Sundiata Gaines (23 points, seven rebounds) and DeQuan Jones (13 points) also finished in double-digits for the Bighorns. Additionally, Mickell Gladness pitched in 11 rebounds and six blocked shots.

In total, the D-Fenders shot a season-low 40.7 percent from the free throw line. However, Los Angeles held the edge in field goal percentage (51.2-42.6), three-point field goal percentage (45.9-36.8) and assists (30-24). Furthermore, the D-Fenders forced the Bighorns into 19 turnovers, which led to 31 points on the day.

Los Angeles' will continue their home stand on Saturday, February 22nd, against the Idaho Stampede, at 6:30pm, at Toyota Sports Center, in El Segundo, California.
