Rockets Prospect Korczak Helps Maulers Advance in SMAAAHL Playoffs
March 3, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
Kelowna Rockets 1st round pick of the 2016 WHL bantam draft Kaedan Korczak has been making noise this season with the Yorkton RawTec Maulers. Korczak helped his team eliminate the 2nd place Notre Dame Hounds in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs. Korczak scored two goals in regulation and completed his hat-trick 7:28 into double overtime last night as Yorkton won game 4 by a score of 4-3 in the best of 5 series.
The Maulers were the 7th seed coming into the playoffs after an up and down season. Yorkton finished the year 20-22-0-2 and had been dealing with consistency issues all season long. Korczak though, has been a bright spot all season for the Maulers and has been a regular contributor to his squad. The recently turned 16 year old defenceman finished 2nd on the Maulers in points, scoring 11 goals and had 29 points in 42 games. This is Korczak's second year with the team, as he played with the Maulers last season as a second year bantam player.
Korczak's success in the regular season has translated over to the playoffs as well, as he currently leads his team with 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points in 4 games, while Yorkton has advanced to the 2nd round of the SMAAAHL playoffs against a team yet to be determined.
The Rockets took Korczak 11th overall in last years bantam draft after making a trade with the Red Deer Rebels to move up from pick number 20.
Korczak played in four games this season with the Rockets during late December/early January and also represented Team Saskatchewan at the 2016 WHL Under 16 Challenge Cup.
