Rockets Hunt for a Win against the Spokane Chiefs
January 3, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets look to get back in the win column when they host the Spokane Chiefs tomorrow night at Prospera Place.
Kelowna had their five game home winning streak snapped on Friday when they fell to the Victoria Royals 2-1.
Assistant coach Travis Crickard says getting back to the basics, as well as mental toughness are the keys to winning the game.
"Skating hard, putting passes on the tape, getting pucks and bodies to the net, and most importantly focusing on our mental toughness because it wasn't really there the last couple games, " said Crickard. "The players have to focus on the things they can control, as opposed to focusing on what the other team is doing, or if the referee makes a call that they don't believe is right. They still have to focus on what they can do within their game."
The Rockets are 0-0-1-0 against their western conference counterpart this season.
The only meeting between the two teams came back on December 2nd in Spokane where the Rockets suffered a 2-1 overtime loss.
The two teams will face each other again at Prospera Place February 17th, and on the road in Spokane on February 26th.
The Rockets come into Wednesday's contest 23-14-2-0 on the season, they're tied with Kamloops for second in the B.C. division with 48 points, 8 points back of the division leading Prince George Cougars.
The Chiefs enter with a 15-16-5-1 record that leaves them sitting fifth in the U.S. division with 36 points, 20 points back of the division leading Everett Silvertips.
Kelowna will be without forwards Dillon Dube, Tomas Soustal, and Calvin Thurkauf as they are away at World Juniors.
The Rockets next home game following Wednesday will be January 7th, when they host the Kamloops Blazers at Prospera Place.
Tickets are available for Rockets home games through www.selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
