Rockets Beat PG 4-1 in Series Opener
March 26, 2011 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Prince George Cougars 4-1 Friday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, taking a one game to nothing lead in their WHL best of seven opening round playoff series.
Geordie Wudrick snapped a 1-1 tie in the third period with his first goal of the playoffs, converting a nice feed from Shane McCoglan and ripping the puck home. After McColgan intercepted a Prince George clearing pass, he spotted Wudrick at the right face-off circle and the big 20-year-old buried it for the game winner.
Mitchell Callahan scored twice and Damon Severson also scored as the Rockets drew first blood in the playoff series with Prince George.
Charles Inglis was the lone Cougars shooter to beat Kelowna starter Adam Brown who made 24 saves and was named the game's first star.
The Rockets opened the scoring on a first period power play when Mitchell Callahan and Tyson Barrie combined on a nice goal. Barrie threw a hard pass to the slot and Callahan deflected it into the top corner. McColgan drew the second assist. Callahan's second goal was into an empty net.
Game two in the series is back at Prospera Place in Kelowna on Saturday night before the series shifts to Prince George for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday.
