New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Runs were at a premium for much of Saturday night at New Britain Stadium before New Hampshire's John Tolisano's 2-Run, eighth-inning HR broke open a pitchers' duel and propelled the visiting Fisher Cats to a 5-0 victory over the host Rock Cats.

In a rare match-up of starting southpaws, 5,134 fans watched New Hampshire's Sean Nolin best Rock Cats' starter and hard-luck loser, Logan Darnell. Darnell (3-3) was sharp, allowing just three hits and 1 run while fanning 6 with no walks over 7-full innings of work. Nolin went 6 innings, surrendering 4 hits but no runs while striking out 5; he moved his record to 2-0.

The Fisher Cats first run came across in the 3rd inning when Kevin Ahrens led off with a double - moved to third on a Darnell wild pitch - and scored on an infield ground out by John Tolisano.

Rock Cats batters were stymied all night by Nolin and two New Hampshire relievers.

With Darnell out of the game and New Britain reliever Bruce Pugh on the hill to start the 8th, the combination of Ahrens and Tolisano struck again. After Ahrens walked, the New Hampshire's second baseman hitting last in the order, slammed a 1-2 pitch from Pugh over the RF fence to give New Hampshire a 3-0 lead. The HR was Tolisano's fourth of the year, while he upped his RBI total to 20. Two more safeties by New Hampshire's Kevin Pillar and Clint Robinson plated the visitors' 4th run that inning.

New Britain reliever Blake Martin came on in the 9th and allowed the Fisher Cats' final tally on three hits.

RHP Scott Gracey was outstanding out of the New Hampshire bullpen, pitching two scoreless innings with 3 Ks. LHP Tommy Hottovy pitched a scoreless final frame and ended the game with a flourish as he struck out the side.
