NEW BRITAIN, CT - Steve Hirschfeld tossed six impressive innings and his battery mate Chris Herrmann homered as the Rock Cats edged Bowie, 3-1 in the nightcap on Saturday night to complete the doubleheader sweep.

In the bottom of the first, the Rock Cats got on the board first when Herrmann crushed a solo home run that hit the Friendly's Fribble sign in center field for a 1-0 lead.

The Baysox tied the game in the second when Joe Mahoney led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Waring.

In the bottom of the fourth, Joe Benson worked a walk with one out. With two outs and Mike Hollimon at the plate, Benson stole second base. Hollimon then lined a single into center field to score Benson for the go-ahead run.

The Rock Cats tacked on another run in the sixth when Brian Dozier led off with a triple and scored on Benson's ground out to second base.

Hirschfeld (8-6) struck out six while limiting the Baysox to one run on three hits in six innings. Brett Jacobson closed the game out with a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his first save.

Eddie Gamboa (2-4) scattered five hits for three runs through 5 2/3 innings for the Baysox. MSWordDocWord.Document.89q
