Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The National Lacrosse League announced today that Rochester Knighthawks forward John Grant has been named the league's Overall Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week. The NLL also honored Colorado Mammoth goaltender Gee Nash as the Defensive Player of the Week and the Buffalo Bandits' Pat McCready as the Transition Player of the Week. Further, Chicago Shamrox forward Cody Jacobs was named Rookie of the Week.

Grant led Rochester to a 19-16 victory over the Arizona Sting last Saturday at The Blue Cross Arena. Grant scored seven goals and dished out two assists for nine points in the victory. The veteran scored two goals on the power play; two goals while short-handed and scooped up three loose balls while leading Rochester to its fifth straight win.

Grant has now won the awards twice this season. In Week 5, he also won Overall and Offensive Player of the Week accolades, following his nine-goal, 15-point performance against New York on January 27th. That night, he broke the NLL single-game points record previously shared by three players: Derek Keenan, Gary Gait and Derek Malawsky.

Last week, Grant was named to the East Division starting lineup for the National Lacrosse League All-Star Game. Grant currently leads the NLL in points with 30 goals and 62 points in eight games. He is Rochester's all-time leading scorer with 326 goals, 344 assists and 670 points. The Knighthawks' alternate captain is a six-time NLL All-Star and played in the 2002, 2005 and 2006 NLL All-Star games. Grant was the first pick overall in the 2000 NLL Entry Draft and was named the Rookie of the Year in his inaugural season. In the summer, he also plays for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse.

This weekend, Rochester begins a three-game road trip as it travels to play the Philadelphia Wings at the Wachovia Center. The 7:30 p.m. game, on Saturday, March 3rd, will be broadcast in progress on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK and whtk.com. The contest will also be televised tape delayed on Sunday, March 4th at 2:30 p.m. on VERSUS.
