Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Rochester, NY - The Rochester Knighthawks fell 10-8 to the Ottawa Black Bears Saturday night at Segar & Sciortino Field at The Blue Cross Arena. The Black Bears used a five-goal fourth quarter to hand the Knighthawks (4-5) their fourth straight loss.

Rochester, which led until early in the fourth quarter, was powered by a four-point effort from Connor Fields (1+3). The Knighthawks also received three-point efforts from Graydon Hogg (2+1), Ryan Lanchbury (1+2), and Zed Williams (2+1).

Williams scored the opening goal 4:47 into the contest in a low-scoring first half. For the second straight contest, the Knighthawks opened up an early lead. Rochester seized a 4-1 advantage at the 11:00 mark of the second quarter on the strength of a three-goal run. Ryan Smith, Hogg, and Fields all scored for the Knighthawks, but Ottawa clawed back to get within one to enter halftime down 4-3.

The Knighthawks held on to the one-goal lead after the third, with each team netting two goals. In the fourth, however, Ottawa opened the final frame by notching four of the contest's next five goals to pull ahead 9-7 with 8:26 to play. Jeff Teat, who finished with two goals and four assists, scored twice in the fourth. Rochester got back within one on Zed Williams' second of the night, but the Black Bears put the game away with Rob Hellyer's third goal of the game at 3:08.

Ottawa goalie Zach Higgins made a season-high 50 saves, while Rochester's Riley Hutchcraft stopped 33 shots. It was Hutchcraft's second start of the season.

"He was great," said Knighthawks team captain Dan Coates. "He is the ultimate teammate. For him to excel and be dialed in, we love to see that and see him be a brick wall out there."

Two Knighthawks reached milestones Saturday night. Ian Llord passed Derek Suddons for eighth all-time in NLL games played (275), while Brad Gillies collected three loose-ball recoveries to reach 500 in his career.

Fields reached a personal milestone as well. He and his wife, Lara, welcomed their second son, Walker, into the world on Friday morning.

"I am so thankful for a healthy boy, and my wife is healthy," he said. "It has been such an awesome day and a half. Today was busy with the back-and-forth. After a game like this, I can't wait to see Walker, Lara, and my other son, Finn."

After a bye week, the Knighthawks remain home to take on the top-seeded Saskatchewan Rush on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. at Segar & Sciortino Field.
