JUST MILLING AROUND: The Rochester Red Wings today begin a 4-game series at Charlotte (White Sox), continuing an 8-game roadtrip that began by losing 3 of 4 at Gwinnett (Braves). The Red Wings return home on Friday for an 8-game homestand that includes a pair of 4-game series with Columbus (Indians) and Norfolk (Orioles).

a The Red Wings yesterday wrapped up their 8-game season series with Gwinnett (3-5), which took place over the last 9 days. It was the longest consecutive stretch of games against one opponent since the Wings played 8 straight against Louisville (Reds) June 9-17, 2007.

a The Wings are in the midst of playing 40 consecutive games against teams outside the International League North Division through June 25 before returning to intradivsion competition at Lehigh Valley (Phillies) June 26-29. Rochester became the final team in the IL to play outside its division when it hosted Louisville May 15 . The Wings' first 37 game s were against IL North teams.

ROSTER NEWS: Righthander David Bromberg yesterday was transferred from Double-A New Britain and will start today's game at Charlotte. Bromberg went 1-1 with a 3.53 ERA in 11 games (6 starts) with New Britain, including a 1-1 record and a 1.42 ERA ( 5 ER/31.2 IP) as a starter.

a Bromberg is the 11th different starting pitcher used by the Red Wings. Only Norfolk (Orioles) and Indianapolis (Pirates) have used more in the IL with 12, but Toledo (Tigers) has also used 11. Lehigh Valley (Phillies) has used the fewest starters in the league with 6.

a Twins righthander Nick Blackburn tomorrow will make a rehabilitation start for the Red Wings at Charlotte. The 30-year-old was placed on the 15-Day Disabled List May 17 with a strained left quadriceps. He went 1-4 with an 8.37 ERA in 7 starts with the Twins before the injury.

BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER: The Red Wings and Monroe County have proclaimed May as "Baseball Month in Rochester." Frontier Field is hosting games on 26 of the 31 days in the month, as the Empire State Yankees share the downtown ballpark with the Red Wings. CALLING ALL STARS: Online voting for the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game is underway. The game, featuring the International League and the Pacific Coast League, will be played at Buffalo's Coca-Cola Field on July 11. a Leading Red Wings candidates include Anthony Slama, owner of 8 saves, a 0.44 ERA, and a 15.0 consecutive scoreless innings streak; and Matt Carson, who leads Rochester with a .291 average, 46 hits, 15 extra-base hits, 12 doubles, 12 RBI, and 21 runs scored.

ON A SLIDE: The Red Wings have lost 3 in a row, 4 of their last 5, and 5 of their last 7. They are a season-worst 9 games under .500 for the 2nd time. They were also 9 under at 14-23 on May 14 after a 6-4 loss at Syracuse (Nationals).

a The Red Wings yesterday lost 1-0 at Gwinnett, their 4th shutout defeat of the year and their 3rd in May. All 4 shutouts have come on the road, including a 2-0 "road" setback against the Empire State Yankees at Frontier Field.

a At 20-29, Rochester is still one game better than it was at this point last season and 2 games better than at the same point in 2010.

ROAD TEST: Since sweeping a 2-game series at Syracuse to open the season, the Red Wings have won just 2 games away from Frontier Field in 17 tries. Both victories in the last 17 true road games have come with Liam Hendriks as the starting pitcher. He is scheduled to pitch Wednesday at Charlotte.

TOUGH TO COME BY: The Red Wings rank last in the IL with 154 runs scored, 16 behind the next closest team Lehigh Valley with 170. They have scored more than 5 runs on just 5 occasions, including Opening Day at Syracuse (W, 7-4), May 10 at Pawtucket (L, 6-7), May 19 vs. Gwinnett (W, 6-4), May 21 vs. Gwinnett (W, 10-1), and Friday at Gwinnett (L, 8-13).

a Rochester also ranks last in the IL with 19 home runs, one behind the next closest team Indianapolis. Michael Hollimon leads the club with 3 homers, and he missed 22 games while on the 7-Day DL with a right elbow contusion.
