Rochester Product Signs, Taylor Waived

(BUFFALO, NY) - The Buffalo Destroyers announced today Rochester East High School star OL/DL Terry Grooms has signed a contract for the remainder of the season.

Grooms, a three year Arena Football League veteran, appeared in two games this season for the defending ArenaBowl champion Grand Rapids Rampage. He had two tackles and three quarterback hurries. Grooms also caught two passes for 15 yards. He has been on the Rampage practice squad for most of the season.

The 6-5, 295 lbs. Grooms played two seasons with the Milwaukee Mustangs and was second on the team with five sacks in 2000 and sixth on the team with 22 tackles. He led the Mustangs with three sacks in 1999.

Grooms played football and track and field at Rochester's East High school in the early 90's and was a four year letter winner at the University of Cincinnati. He was named second team All-Conference USA his senior season. He signed by the New York Jets as a free agent in 1997.

"Terry is an established veteran in this league who has had success," said Destroyers head coach and general manager Ray Bentley. "We look forward to seeing what he can do for the Destroyers."

The team also announced it has waived DS Prentice Taylor. Taylor played in four games for the Destroyers this season and was the team's fourth leading tackler with 23 stops. Taylor led the Destroyers with 60 tackles in 2001. He also led the team with 15 pass break-ups. He was an All-Rookie selection in 2000 while being named team co-MVP with Bobby Olive. Taylor holds Destroyers records for career interceptions with six, career passes defended with 30, season passes defended with 18 in 2001, career tackles with 165 and tackles in a game with 12 v. Albany June 10, 2000.
